SWEDISH STARTUP HALL OF FAME

The annual award commemorates startup people who, through their actions and personality, have made an exceptional contribution to the Swedish startup scene.

The prize aims to congratulate and highlight the true startup stars of Sweden but also to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. So far four extraordinary entrepreneurs and founders have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Daniel Ek, Founder of Spotify, Niklas Zennström, Founder of Skype and Atomico, Jane Walerud, multi-exit entrepreneur and Sebastian Knutsson co-founder King. More information and motivations for inducting each of these can be found below.

Swedish Startup Hall of Fame 2017

The fifth person inducted into Swedish Startup Hall of Fame was Sebastian Siemiatkowski from Klarna. The motivation for inducting Sebastian read:

“Through a unique combination of vision, hunger for success and tenacity this person has built a successful business from the ground-up. A true role model and a real startup-hero, inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs whether they are currently students or employees.

With their company’s continuous evolvement, success and recent launch in the US this person is leading by example, proving that a startup based in Stockholm can grow, scale and become a global game-changer. For that we have the honour of inducting Sebastian Siemiatkowski, co-founder of Klarna, into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.”

We therefore, see it as an honor to commemorate this by inducting Sebastian Siemiatkowski into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.

Swedish Startup Hall of Fame 2016

The fourth person inducted into Swedish Startup Hall of Fame was Sebastian Knutsson from King. The motivation for inducting Sebastian read:

“Sebastian Knutsson has been a serial entrepreneur in the online and mobile industries for more than 20 years. He co-founded King.com and has designed 100+ games including the world hit: Candy Crush Saga. As a true unicorn, King has further manifested Sweden as the global startup country. Last year Sebastian founded Sweet Capital where he invests in startups and continues to develop Sweden´s startup ecosystem. He is a true role model and a real startup hero! Therefore, it is an honor to commemorate this by inducting Sebastian into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.”

We therefore, see it as an honor to commemorate this by inducting Sebastian Knutsson into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.

 

Swedish Startup Hall of Fame 2015

The third person inducted into Swedish Startup Hall of Fame was Jane Walerud. The motivation for inducting Jane read:

During the past 15 years, Jane Walerud has been involved in, and passionate about, the Swedish startup ecosystem – founding, funding and driving management teams. She has enabled companies in the community such as Klarna, Lensway, Bluetail and Tobii to take their first steps into becoming the big players they are today.

Apart from that, she has paved the way for women within the tech and investment scene and helped develop the Swedish startup scene into the flourishing creature it is today. We therefore, see it as an honor to commemorate this by inducting Jane Walerud into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.

Swedish Startup Hall of Fame 2014

The second person inducted into Swedish Startup Hall of Fame was Niklas Zennström. The motivation for inducting Niklas read:

For his contribution to the world as a whole and the Swedish startup community in particular, Niklas Zennström is hereby inducted into the SUP46 Swedish Startup Hall of Fame. Like very few people before him, Niklas has demonstrated a unique combination of vision, wit, grit and execution to go from idea to a truly globally successful company.

He is an inspiration and role model to all of us who believe that the impossible is actually possible and that one person can change the world.

Swedish Startup Hall of Fame 2013

The first person inducted into Swedish Startup Hall of Fame was Daniel Ek, Spotify. The motivation for inducting Daniel read:

For his exceptional foresight and courage to launch and execute one of the most successful startups to ever come out of Sweden we welcome Daniel Ek into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.

His combination of skill, courage, execution and grit make him a role model for current and future founders!
